Passport Photos Passport photographs have changed, new rules have been introduced and these dictate a range of details e.g. no reflections on spectacles, even shadow free lighting, head size to be within 29mm and 34 mm and a neutral expression. Not surprising that many passport photographs are rejected each year. These instructions apply to the UK, Sweden for example prefers black and white photographs, US passports have to be 2" x 2" with different subject's head size to European regulations. The Canadians insist on a photograph that is 50mm x 70mm but the head size has to be between 31mm and 36mm. To the confusion of all new parents even week old babies need passports if they are going to travel, we also take passports for babies! Q. Why do so many people choose to have their passport and ID photos taken at a passport photographers, instead of in a booth? A. The rules for taking a photo that can be accepted for a passport are strict. Many people have had their booth photos rejected. The UK Passport Service rejected more than 80,000 passport photos in the first eight weeks after they introduced their new rules on September 12, 2005. (check out the BBC report on this: http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/uk/4594674.stm ) After this experience, people often prefer to use a service where their passport or ID photo is taken by another person, someone with experience of working to the rules. That costs less than having to go back to a booth several times before you finally get a photo that will be accepted! Confused! we are not. We know what is required to make a successful passport and if you are from say Kiribati or Nauru we will do our best to find out what is required.
