Sir Paul Collier, CBE is professor of economics and public policy in the Blavatnik School of Government at the University of Oxford.
I was fortunate to meet Professor Collier when booked to shoot his portrait for a Swiss newspaper NZZ. As I always do I looked up Professor Collier before meeting him to photograph, I find knowing something about the subject helps to get a more personal and interesting portrait. I eventually found an extensive but fascinating article by Professor Collier in the TLS and he proved to be as interesting in person as in print.
It was planned that there would be a 2 hour session for the journalist and then time for photography, in the end, as is often the case, the photography was squeezed into about 10 minutes and I had to get a variety of shots to please the picture editor at NZZ. Here are some.
